Capri Lagoon Tour. Patagonia from Buenos Aires

The Capri lagoon is undoubtedly one of the main hiking destinations in the interior of the Los Glaciares National Park. Together with other trails such as the one that leads to Los Tres lagoon, “Vuelta al Fitz Roy”, Torre lagoon , Las Águilas, etc. have made this corner of Patagonia world famous for hiking and El Chaltén is known in Argentina as the national capital of trekking .

To the above, we must add that the spectacular nature and difficulty of the mountains in the sector–mainly highlighting the mount Fitz Roy and the Torre mountaine – also attract many mountaineers year after year who dream of the beautiful lines of granite and ice that lead to these Patagonian peaks.

The center of all mountain activity in this sector is El Chaltén, a small Argentine town founded in 1986 for reasons of sovereignty and which today has become a place that welcomes mountaineers, hikers and travelers from all over the world. From this town begins the walk to the Capri lagoon.

The Laguna Capri trail stands out for having beautiful views of the mountain Fitz Roy and its satellite needles. Mount Torre. Patagonia from Buenos Aires

Tour to Cerro Torre. Patagonia from Buenos Aires
Tour to Cerro Torre. Patagonia from Buenos Aires

Its impressive beauty, its capricious shape as a result of glacial carving and the incredible history of its conquests make Mount Torre compete with the Fitz Roy, its northeastern neighbor, in celebrity and world renown.

It is located on the eastern border of the Southern Ice Field, in an area subject to dispute between Chile and Argentina and whose resolution has been frozen by a 1998 agreement between the two states. The fastest access is through El Chaltén, a small Argentine town founded in 1986 for reasons of sovereignty and which today has become a place that welcomes mountaineers, hikers and travelers from all over the world.

At 3,102m, Cerro Torre is a granite needle crowned by an impressive top mushroom that is generated not so much by falling snow as by the freezing of humidity brought by the violent Pacific winds and trapped in the walls of this mountain.

The western face of the mountain is covered by an almost constant crust of ice, product of the condensation of humidity coming from the west. The north face is perhaps the most dangerous because of the constant fall of material. The south is the most technical and difficult, with overhanging sectors.

The complex level of difficulty present on all its flanks, added to the great climatic instability, means that this mountain is reserved to be attempted only by the most experienced and talented mountaineers.

Located just over the eastern edge of the Southern Ice Field, it is located between the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park of Chile and Los Glaciares National Park of Argentina, within the group of peaks in the El Chalten area. It has the second height of this entire group after the Fitz Roy. Together with the Mount Egger and Mount Standhardt, it forms its own mountain range to the southwest of the fitz roy which is particularly hit by bad weather from the Pacific, so it is covered most of the time. This ridge extends south into the glaciated ridge Adela .

Huemul Glacier. Patagonia from Buenos Aires

Tour to Huemul Glacier. Patagonia from Buenos Aires
Tour to Huemul Glacier. Patagonia from Buenos Aires

A few meters from Lago del Desierto, the trail to the Huemul glacier is one of the most attractive to visit in El Chaltén. With a unique forest, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places for trekking.

The name of the small huemul deer has baptized one of the most beautiful glaciers in the region. The road to reach it forces the walker to carry out a different trekking, whose prize is at the end of the road.

This path seems easy, since at the beginning the terrain is flat enough for the walker to progress quickly and steadily without difficulty, and manage to cover a large number of meters without expending so much energy. But in a matter of minutes the landscape changes completely and the path takes a different direction; it gets darker at times, gets more locked up at others, and starts to slope up as we go. I mean, we will start going up.

The forest, gray at times, dry green at others and brown towards the ground, acquires a different physiognomy from that of most of the luminous paths that can be traveled on El Chalten and its surroundings.

Confectionery and Bathrooms.

Continuing the tour, we will find fabulous panoramic views of the Lake and the Viedma Glacier.

The landscape surprises us until 10 am, when we enter the National Capital of trekking, and the magical views of the Andes, framing the tourist village.

Free time for photographs and amazement.

Magallanico and the incomprehensible Rio de las Vueltas.

Book “Tierra del Fuego The End of the World” at ArG Tour and receive a preferential service!

The Big Island of Tierra del Fuego is located in the extreme south of America, a continent from which it is separated by the Strait of Magellan. It has two well differentiated sectors, the northern two thirds are formed by plateaus and gently undulating plains. The south is occupied by the southern end of the Andes mountain range, which here has an East-West orientation. Only 30% of the island is covered by forests. There is the Guaitecas cypress, the southernmost conifer in the world.

Excursion to Tierra del Fuego National Park

Tierra del Fuego National Park is located 12 km from Ushuaia and our tour begins when the guide picks up each passenger at their accommodation.

The first stop of the tour is at the End of the World Train station, there you can choose to take the train, an optional activity, and those who choose not to take the train can tour the station with the guide and then continue inside the park. On board the train, a journey of approximately 1 hour, you will hear the history of the prisoners in Ushuaia and other interesting secrets of the city. If you took the tour, don’t worry, the guide will give you all the information you missed.

Already inside the park and surrounded by forests and the sea coast of the Beagle Channel, in Ensenada Zaratiegui, we will find the southernmost Post Office in the World, so we recommend you bring your passport to stamp it. The office is open from the end of October to the end of April.

Another of the sites that we will visit is Lake Acigami / Roca, a dazzling lake of glacial origin, located on the border between Argentina and Chile, and it is important to say that at all times we will have the opportunity to observe native fauna such as black-necked swans, cauquenes, cormorants, striped rays, foxes and the flora of the Fuegian forest.

The last place to visit is Lapataia Bay, where National Route No. 3 ends, and the final stretch of the longest land connection in America, which allows us to go by car from Ushuaia to Alaska. Pan American!

Ushuaia Forests. "Tierra del Fuego The End of the World"
Ushuaia Forests. “Tierra del Fuego The End of the World”

So that everyone wants to know and enjoy the wonderful views of the forest and the rivers that border two lakes, we created an authentic 4×4 journey, suitable for all types of travelers. People with reduced mobility or who prefer to rest their legs will be able to explore, photograph or simply let themselves be carried away by the unique nature of the Escondido and Fagnano lakes (Cami in its original name).

When we broke ground and launched this tour – in 1998 – no one else was doing anything like «»Lagos Off-Road»» which, even today, continues to characterize our emphasis on quality and professionalism to present each place in a fun way. Long the only one of its kind in Tierra del Fuego, our tour made it known to tourists and locals alike! places like the Laguna Bombilla. Now, «»Lagos Off Road»» is one of the main excursions in Tierra del Fuego and since then our proposal improves every year: since 2009, this tour receives constant praise on Tripadvisor as “the best excursion off the road in Ushuaia” of part of passengers from all over the world: from Texas, Paris, Buenos Aires, Lago Puelo and also from locals in Tierra del Fuego!

The company of our guides, the (already famous) meal in our refuge on Lake Fagnano and the Argentinian Malbec shared in a friendly atmosphere are memorable. Almost as much as the adventure of knowing the oldest parts of the ancient forest and the most unusual, beautiful and secret views of the enormous Fagnano Lake.

All those who want to live a more intimate excursion can hire their own guide and their own van to enjoy a “tailor-made trip”. There, small children can also join without age restrictions and the whole family can build their own path»

At the end of the off road tour, lunch will be enjoyed in a refuge on the shores of Lake Fagnano.

We recommend making the request for your Buenos Aires airport transfer to hotel at least three to four hours before the flight departure because the trip from the hotel to the Ezeiza airport takes 45 to 60 minutes. If you take off from Aeroparque, 2-3 hours should be enough.

The areas around Microcentro, Retiro, Monserrat, Puerto Madero, San Nicolás and a part of San Telmo and Recoleta are believed to be the core of Buenos Aires. It costs a little more to go to Palermo.

You must specify the expected flight arrival time for transfers starting at the airport. At both cruise ports and train stations, you will need to provide your estimated time of arrival.

When scheduling transfers from the hotel, please let us know what time you would like to be picked up. This means that you must specify the time you want us to pick you up instead of the scheduled flight departure time.

Whale Watching and Penguins Tour from Buenos Aires in Valdés Peninsula

Whales and penguins safari from Buenos Aires

Season 2023 ongoing now until early November. Book Whale Watching and Penguins Tour from Buenos Aires in Valdés Peninsula at ArG Tour!

The Valdés Peninsula is a coastal landform on the Argentine Sea, in the province of Chubut, Argentina. It is currently one of the nine World Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in Argentina. Valdés Peninsula receives the largest breeding population of southern right whales, with more than 2,000 cataloged whales. The region contains six nature reserves, and is considered one of the main and most important whale watching destinations on the planet, particularly around Puerto Pirámides and the city of Puerto Madryn. In addition, orcas, dolphins, penguins, elephant seals and a great variety of birds, among others, are sighted.

The panorama seems barren at first sight since it is flat and with predominantly bushy and thorny vegetation. However, the peninsula attracts huge numbers of animal species, and is a collection of ecosystems that amaze tourists and scientific researchers.

Adapted to the steppe environment are maras (“Patagonian hares”), some guanacos, gray foxes, Patagonian culpeos, Patagonian rheas (or “Patagonian ostrich”), skunks, and armadillos such as the Zaedyus pichiy. On the other hand, the jaguars and condors that came to roam these Patagonian coasts were exterminated at the end of the 19th century, while the Patagonian pumas only rarely incursion into the peninsula from the populations of the western steppes, without maintaining permanent populations in the area. protected. Calluses can be seen, which are raised areas of skin more than approximately 18 cm thick, with a horny consistency, located in different parts of the head. The distribution, dimension and shape of the calluses vary from one whale to another but do not change with growth. Functioning like fingerprints, they identify each animal throughout life.

The Magellanic Penguin

Spheniscus magellanicus. Whale Watching and Penguins Tour from Buenos Aires in Valdés Peninsula

Also known as the Patagonian penguin, it is a species of bird in the penguin family (Spheniscidae), which nests on the Malvinas Islands and on the coasts and islands of Patagonia in Argentina and Chile. They nest in colonies in certain places on the coast, selecting for this purpose soft soils where they can dig their nests, although they can also nest under bushes or other protection. About a million specimens nest each year in Punta Tombo.

Also know as Patagonian Mara , patagonian hare , Y creole hare , although it does not belong to the order of true hares. The pups are raised in a common burrow, in which up to 15 mothers can leave their litter. They develop rapidly and can begin to graze within 24 hours of birth.

The Guanaco

It is a species of artiodactyl mammal of the Camelidae family typical of South America. It is a wild animal, as opposed to the llama (Lama glama) which is domestic. It is covered by thick double fur that protects it. The great damage caused by the overgrazing of herds of sheep and cattle in Patagonia has led to some ranches keeping guanacos adapted for meat production.

Seafood: The Southern King Crab

Lithodes santolla. Whale Watching and Penguins Tour from Buenos Aires in Valdés Peninsula
Lithodes santolla. Whale Watching and Penguins Tour from Buenos Aires in Valdés Peninsula

The Patagonian spider crab is a crustacean that inhabits the seabed of the cold waters of southern South America. The capture of this animal constitutes a lucrative resource for the towns of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. This led to several incidents when Argentine schooners were fishing near Gable Island (today under Argentine sovereignty). This event, along with several others, led to the Beagle conflict in the 1970s.

Wildlife Calendar

The ideal time to visit the peninsula is from mid-September to early November, when most of the wildlife is found: whales, penguins, elephant seals and killer whales.

Cruise through Patagonia fjords. Patagonia from Ice to Flowers

The Holocene is the last and current geological period. It corresponds to the end of the last glaciation approximately 12,000 years ago, producing a gradual removal of the ice that caused the rise in sea level, but at the same time, the appearance of the rocky mantle on the surface of the Patagonia, formerly occupied by large ice masses, beginning the process of colonization of lichens and mosses, the ancestors of the southern flora …

Glaciers in Patagonia

During the winter there is an accumulation of snow and it begins to compress. Its hexagonal crystals begin to deform due to compaction, releasing the air and giving the crystals a more granulated shape. In this way we reach the second stage of snow that is the snow or snow. As new layers of snow accumulate, the same weight compacts it, and over time, it becomes glacial ice.

At the end of the 15th century, the Portuguese discovered and monopolized the Cape of Good Hope, thus opening the first sea route to Asia and Oceania, a source of wealth for European commerce. The Magellanic Penguin

The first mention of this friendly animal was recorded in 1520 by the rapporteur of the trip of Hernando de Magallanes, Antonio Pigafetta: he describes it as a wild goose! It is presumed that the penguin was in the remote past a flying land bird, related to petrels, who then approached the sea more and more to find food.
